The TeleMachus Story
From Ancient Wisdom to Modern Mastery
The word "Mentor" is used commonly today, but its origins carry a weight that most have forgotten. In the ancient Greek epics, when King Odysseus departed for the Trojan War, he entrusted his son, Telemachus, to his loyal friend, Mentor. However, the story takes a profound turn when the Goddess Athena descends, disguising herself as Mentor to offer Telemachus the protection, strategic counsel, and wisdom he needs to claim his kingdom.
At TeleMachus Mentoring, we believe this story is more relevant now than ever. The journey of a young man is rarely a solo mission; it requires a "wise counsel" that respects both tactical discipline and the vital roles of the women in our lives. Just as Athena guided the original Telemachus, we recognise that Gender-Based Security and a deep respect for the "Athena" figures of today—our mothers, sisters, and mentors—are the true markers of a strong man. We bridge the gap between the ancient tradition of guided growth and the modern need for character, ensuring every young man has the blueprint to lead with self-respect, respect for others and integrity.
The Founder’s Journey - The Architect: Forged in the Silent Service
My own blueprint for life began with a simple but powerful principle passed down by my father, Terence McIntosh—affectionately known as T-Mac, a nickname given to him by my mother. My father mentored me and my siblings with a simple tactical truth, “You can do anything you want to, and achieve anything you choose to become.” Today, I help my clients bridge the gap between that 'want' and that 'becoming'."
He lived by a creed of pride in his family, often stating during his church testimonies: “I am proud of Each and Every one of my children.” I carried those words of belief with me when I left home at 16 to enter the depths of the Royal Navy Submarine Service. It was there I learned the true value of the "Silent Service"—Respect, Discipline, Reliability, and the ability to operate under extreme pressure without the need for noise.
That foundation led to a thirty-two-year career in Law Enforcement, serving across High-Crime Community Policing, Specialised Protective Services, and Recruitment. A particular highlight was serving as an Academy Instructor for new recruits and operating within active and passive Counter-Terrorism units in both Scotland and Western Australia. A defining moment of my service was being selected as the sole representative of the Scottish Police at the Opening of the Scottish Parliament—an honour that reinforced my belief in the importance of community representation and professional standing.
After transitioning into the corporate sector, managing safety and security for global multi-national brands and cloud computing platforms, I realised that the tactical discipline and respect for others that saved lives throughout my professional and personal experiences were exactly what was missing for young men entering adulthood.
Today, I combine that frontline experience with a Bachelor of Social Science in Security & Counterterrorism and a Graduate Certificate of Applied Coaching. As an Accredited Coach (PCC Pathway) with the International Coaching Federation (ICF), I have dedicated my career to helping the next generation discover their own TeleMachus within, guiding them to become the leaders they are meant to be.
The Mac Mandate
Our mission at TeleMachus Mentoring is to transform young men into leaders by instilling tactical discipline and moral character. We foster a global mindset where self-respect and respect for others form the foundation of every action. Through essential life skills, we provide frameworks for a life defined by respect, responsibility, and resilience.
The Mac Code: Strength Through Protection
In the world of high-level security, we are taught that power is only effective when used to protect and stabilize. At TeleMachus Mentoring, our philosophy is rooted in the belief that true empowerment is inseparable from Gender-Based Security. We move beyond the superficial trends of social media to teach a deeper, more enduring standard of masculinity.
We encourage young men to embrace being a "Mac" as an active advocacy for the safety and dignity of all, especially women and children. This starts at home, valuing the strategic wisdom of the women in their lives and treating the "Counsel of Athena"—the guidance and strength offered by women—as a tactical strength rather than a weakness. By cultivating manners, responsibility, and an active character that stands up when others are silent, we ensure that every man we mentor becomes a pillar of security for his community. True strength isn't found in dominance; it is found in the character required to protect the standard.
If you are ready to find the "TeleMachus within" and build a life that stands the test of time, it is time to become a “Mac”.
